Mamie Yamamoto
- Born in 1992, Kyoto-prefecture
Mamie Yamamoto was born in 1992 in Kyoto Prefecture and is currently based in Kyoto. She is using clay and woodblock prints to create her artworks. Although the materials are different, the works are created with a common feeling, such as carving and drawing on woodblocks and carving three-dimensional objects made of clay. Yamamoto is always seeking opportunities to create works between 2D and 3D, going back and forth between them. Yamamoto received both a BFA (2015) and MFA (2017) from Kyoto University of Arts and also studied abroad at École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs Image Imprimée in 2016. She had several solo/group shows, mainly in the Kansai area (west side of Japan), including a solo exhibition at Gallery 16 (Kyoto), DOHJIDAI GALLERY OF ART (Kyoto).
Artist Statement
I curve the images or drawings that I document on the soil, and decorate the surface by putting make up on it.
Not only just drawing but also just like curving the memories into soil, I create artwork almost like curving the wood block.
