Kai-Chun Chang
- Born in 1989, Taipei, Taiwan, Lives and works in Paris, France
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1989, he lives and works in Paris after studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris.Kai-Chun Chang's artistic focus lies primarily in painting, yet it extends to include monotype, collage, photography, and sculpture. His initial training in traditional Chinese ink painting led him to explore the relationship between volatile phenomena and states of mind. He reveals the fragility of human existence through the representation of light. Between the smooth surface of the canvas and the pictorial depth, the transparent layers of acrylic paint bring forth spiritual spaces and landscapes.Chang's paintings are both an impression and an illusion that invite contemplation in hazy indistinctness. The fragments of iridescent light and the chromatic fields inhabit minds in an unrealizable utopia. In 2023, Kai-Chun Chang was selected for the 73rd edition of the Jeune Création Prize. He was also among the finalists for the International Painting Prize of Vitry-sur-Seine in 2018. His works have entered public collections in France, China, and Taiwan, as well as significant private collections in France, Italy, Switzerland, and elsewhere. His latest solo exhibition, "Neither Storm nor Sunshine," took place at the Yiri Gallery in Taipei in 2023. His next solo exhibition will be held at the Romero Paprocki Gallery in October 2024.
